Iceland Icebergs
Although large parts of Iceland are green, especially in summer (contrary to its large neighbour Greenland, which is mainly ice), you can find ice in Iceland all year round. Glacier lake Jokulsarlon – Jökulsárlón, the colours and shapes are just stunning. Stopping by makes you feel like being in some sort of a dream. Just seconds before we drove into the Jokulsarlon, I could have had breakfast outdoor on the grass surrounded by sheep and suddenly a massive glacier takes over. The glacier lagoon is filled with odd shaped icebergs, which are constantly on the move. It takes 6-8 years for the ice-block to break off from the main glacier and be carried through the lagoon to the sea which is about 1-2 km far-away. On the photographs below you can see Jökulsárlón, Mýrdalsjökull and Vatnajökull glaciers. Great thing is that you can take a boat, which will take you around the lagoon floating just centimetres from huge ice-blocks. A perfect attraction for photographing one of the Iceland’s great natural wonders.
